Users should remove chlorine and chloramine from tap water before using MicroBacterStart XLM. Normally, one has to dose only once on the first day, but more could be added for a speedy cycle. Some users reported that the product worked well in stabilizing their fish tank. One buyer used it every week for the past two years to control algae growth in a stable reef tank. However, another customer who followed the instructions for fishless cycle and used dry rock and sand had a hard time cycling the aquarium using the product.
