- Sophokles (MÖ 495-406): Yunan tragedyasının en önemli yazarları arasında adı ilkönce hatırlanan Sophokles, konuları işleyişi ve oyundaki karakterleri canlandırılmakta ustalığıyla ayrı bir yere sahiptir. Tiyatro tekniğini geliştirmiş, diyaloglara, dekor ve kostüme önem vermiştir. Tragedyalarında dönemin yazarlarında rastlanmayan derli toplu bir iç yapı görülür. Eserlerinde yazgı sorununu her zaman ön planda tutar. Katıldığı yarışmalarda yirmiden fazla ödül almıştır. Yüz yirmi üç tragedya yazan Sophokles'in eserlerinden sadece Aias, Antigone, Kral Oidipus, Elektra, Trakhis Kadınları, Philoktetes, Oidipus Kolonos'ta günümüze ulaşabilmiştir.Bedrettin Tuncel (1910-1980): Hasan Ali Yücel'in kurduğu Tercüme Bürosu'nda üye olarak görev aldı. Ankara Üniversitesi DTCF'de Fransız Dili ve Edebiyatı bölümünde öğretim üyesi olarak çalıştı. Ankara Devlet Konservatuvarı'nda Tiyatro Tarihi dersleri verdi. Uzun yıllar UNESCO Milli Komite Başkanlığı'nı yürüttü. Bir süre Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı yaptı. Edebiyat ve tiyatro tarihi konusunda kitaplar yazdı, araştırma ve incelemeler yayımladı.
